About the Orchestra
The mission of the Whidbey Island Orchestra is to foster a positive musical experience for its musician members and for our local community. We perform for the love of music and for the opportunity to spread the joy of music to Whidbey Island audiences.

Community support is vital for Whidbey Island Orchestra. Although our adult musicians pay dues, these do not cover our operating expenses. We depend on the voluntary donations we
receive for our primary community support.

Whidbey Island Orchestra announces the 2025-2026 Young Artist Competition
As part of our support of young artists, Whidbey Island Orchestra is seeking musicians age 8 – 18 to perform as soloists with the Orchestra at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in May, 2026.
Soloists will be chosen, from video submissions, by Conductor James Hinkley. Applicants must be residents of Whidbey Island, between age 8 and 18 as of February 1, 2026, and either enrolled in a school music program or studying with a private music instructor.
Winners will rehearse at least twice with the orchestra and perform at WICA on May 16 and 17, 2026.
Submissions are due no later than February 1, 2026. More information is available in the Application Form.
